A civilian army as strong as the military. Just as Obama said

A civilian army as strong as the military. Just as Obama said:

This is getting a little creepy.
According to one estimate, since last year the Department of Homeland Security has stockpiled more than 1.6 billion bullets, mainly .40 caliber and 9mm.
DHS also purchased 2,700 Mine Resistant Armor Protected Vehicles (MRAP).
homeland security mrap
The Department of Homeland Security (through the U.S. Army Forces Command) recently retrofitted 2,717 of these ‘Mine Resistant Protected’ vehicles for service on the streets of the United States.
Although I’ve seen and read several online blurbs about this vehicle of late, I decided to dig slightly deeper and discover more about the vehicle itself.
The new DHS sanctioned ‘Street Sweeper’ (my own slang due to the gun ports) is built by Navistar Defense (NavistarDefense.com), a division within the Navistar organization. Under the Navistar umbrella are several other companies including International Trucks, IC Bus (they make school buses), Monaco RV (recreational vehicles), WorkHorse (they make chassis), MaxxForce (diesel engines), and Navistar Financial (the money arm of the company).
DHS even released a video on their newly purchased MRAPs.
Via Pat Dollard:

The MRAP featured in this video is was in Albuquerque, New Mexico for Law Enforcement Day which was held at a local area Target Store. This MRAP is stationed in El Paso, Texas at The Homeland Security Investigations Office. MRAP is a Mine Resistant Armor Protected Vehicle.

UnAmerican

Sad conclusion… [Reader Post]:

With days to go before Obama got elected in 2008, he made one of the few honest public statements he has ever made when he said he was going to fundamentally change this country. The libs didn’t listen. He also said he wanted a civilian security force as well trained and funded as our military. Again the libs didn’t listen. He won the election and began his mission. He appointed a ton of czars and advisers, making the obvious effort to circumvent the balance of power by ruling through regulation instead of governing by legislation. The libs didn’t notice. Congress didn’t seem to notice either, even though the Executive Branch began gaining weight and tipping the scales.

He nationalized two of the three car companies, then focused on the banks. Then he forced Obamacare upon us, who really knows what’s buried in that bill. The stimulus was next, and continues since our government is still running withou a buget. He captured control of the energy industry after an unintentional drilling disaster which he turned, somehow, into a criminal act.

He arbitrarily decided to take us to war in Lybia without any approval from anyone (more on that later) in direct contradiction to the Constitution. Nobody called him on that effectively, he basically said “we went ’cause I said so…” He put troops on the ground in North Africa without approval, nobody noticed. His gun control mission started a long time ago, and again he doesn’t answer for Fast & Furious, executive priveledge? He passes a message to Putin about how much more “flexibility” he will have after the election. Again he capitalizes on yet another tragedy to push his disarming of America agenda (the Brit’s tried this here too, a couple hundred years ago), he knows an unarmed America cannot resist tyranny.

From 49 million Uninsured before ObamaCare to 40 million After ObamaCare -- Winning...

All in all, at least 40 million people could be uninsured in 2016, only 9 million fewer than before the law was passed.
A trillion dollars over ten years, usurping the doctor’s role in determining care, jacking up insurance rates to ruinous levels, bankrupting the 57 states, rationing, death panels, and all the rest — in order to solve the 30 billion dollar problem of 49 million uninsured. And of those, 40 million still might not get covered?
It all makes sense when you remember that ObamaCare was never about providing coverage. It was about assuming control.
And, man, did they ever.

El Paso, America’s safest big city, defies Obama on gun control

President Obama offers gun control as a means of fighting violence, but America’s ‘safest city’ has lax gun control laws, and local officials mean to keep it that way.

“We’re being proactive and being pre-emptive,” El Paso County Commissioner Peggy Littleton said after the county panel passed “a resolution challenging President Barack Obama’s 23 executive orders designed to crack down on gun violence,” as the Denver Post explained.

Gun violence isn’t much of an issue in El Paso, which is the safest city of its size in the country.  “[T]his week, for the third year in a row, El Paso was ranked as the safest U.S. city with a population greater that 500,000 by CQ Press, which compiled FBI’s Uniform Crime Reports,” per Fox.

Cops in gun-free England getting ambushed, shot, bombed with grenades: Piers Morgan unavailable for comment

Ross:

Looks like Piers Morgan is right: there's no gun-crime in England:

A fugitive lured police officers to him before shooting them repeatedly and then throwing a grenade at his victims, a court has heard... Dale Cregan, 29, had evaded a nationwide manhunt when he set the trap, Preston Crown Court heard.

Mr Cregan denies killing PCs Nicola Hughes, 23, and Fiona Bone, 32, in Hattersley, Greater Manchester last September. He also denies the murders of David Short, 46, and his son, Mark, 23... Mr Cregan appeared in court wearing a false left eye made of black onyx.

Mr Nicholas Clarke QC, prosecuting, said PCs Hughes and Bone were killed as they responded to a report of a burglary on the morning of 18 September.

Mr Clarke said: "[Cregan] lay in wait with a Glock firearm with an extended magazine that was fully loaded.

"PC Fiona Bone and PC Nicola Hughes attended. As soon as they arrived Cregan, who was on the run, shot the officers repeatedly, until his magazine was empty.

"As he left the scene he again threw a grenade towards the victims."

The ludicrous, clownish hack Piers Morgan hardest hit.

Size Matters: Smart Car Driver killed after her micro-sized vehicle hits a... motorcycle

"Smart" isn't the brand name I'd use to describe a vehicle like this.

A woman who died in hospital after a collision between her car and a motorcycle in Surrey has been named as Freda Lawry.

The crash between the Smart car and the bike happened on 27 January on the A245 Byfleet Road in Cobham...

The motorcyclist, a man in his 30s, was taken to George's Hospital in Tooting, where he remains in a serious, but stable condition, Surrey Police said.

President Obama's mandate for vehicles to reach 54 miles-per-gallon over the next few years means that more people will needlessly die. And that's not me guessing, that's the National Highway Transportation Safety Agency.

...
They also learned that drivers in lightweight cars were up to twelve times more likely to die in a crash – and far more likely to suffer serious injury and permanent disabilities.

Increasing mileage requirements by a whopping 19 mpg above current rules will make nearly all cars even less safe than they are today.

When President Obama says, in regards to gun control, "if we can only save one child," we know he's engaged in demagoguery.

Thousands die each year thanks to insane CAFE standards and Democrats could care less.

Fed Has Bought More U.S. Debt This Year Than Treasury Issued...

At the close of business on Jan. 2, the Federal Reserve had owned $1.661 trillion in U.S. Treasury securities. By the close of business on Feb. 6, it owned $1.7172 trillion—an increase of $51.1 billion for the calendar year.

Thus, the Federal Reserve’s purchases of U.S. government debt in this calendar year have exceeded the Treasury’s net debt issues by about $3.9 billion.

Oblivious to the fact that the 2nd Amendment is a civil right, (D) Jim Clyburn compares gun control to civil rights

House Assistant Democratic Leader Jim Clyburn (D-S.C.) on Thursday compared the fight for comprehensive gun-control legislation to the civil-rights movement.

"I think about my own experiences in the '60s and a governor whom I will not name professed 'never'," he said. "In 1964, we started out with a comprehensive civil rights act, and by the time it got passed it was not near as comprehensive."

"But a year later voting came, three years later fair housing came, four years after that we outlawed discrimination in the public sector. I think the principles we heard here today will probably be in a very comprehensive bill -- and it may not pass, all of it, the first time out. But I am convinced that sooner or later we will have comprehensive legislation." ...

The Best Term for Describing Obamanomics and Obamacare? Fascist, Unless We Want to Avoid Hurting Feelings...

I’ve already provided my two cents on the underlying theory of Obamanomics, and I agree that socialism is not the right term.

Like Thomas Sowell and John Mackey, I think that it’s technically more accurate to say that Obamacare is fascism – nominal private ownership but government control.

But I’ve also concluded that it’s a distraction to use that term. Which is why I prefer to call Obama a statist or corporatist. Though maybe we should add redistributionist to that list.

P.S. Here’s the Obama version of Socialism for Kids.

Jesse Jackson - Disarm the Citizens, Put Them on Hold, Then Bring in the DHS Troops

LonelyConservative:

Jesse Jackson is suddenly aware of the high crime rate in Chicago, and he wants the Department of Homeland Security to patrol the city’s streets in the name of keeping people safe. What does he think they’re going to do, pat down all of the bad guys?
...
But how did the situation in Chicago get so bad in the first place? The city’s leaders disarmed all law-abiding citizens by passing outrageous gun control laws that gave criminals the upper hand. By definition, criminals don’t follow gun laws, so they remain armed and more confident than ever. Police are outgunned and citizens are outgunned, and the result is that Chicago has the highest murder rate of any city in the world. (This is called cause and effect.) (Read More)
Maybe the Chicago PD can get them to respond to 911 calls, since the police won’t be doing it.

Krugman Calls for "..death panels and sales taxes" to save ObamaCare...

Already??

I'm guessing that Sparky McEnron didn't realize he was being videotaped:

Eventually we do have a problem. That the population is getting older, health care costs are rising... there is this question of how we’re going to pay for the programs. The year 2025, the year 2030, something is going to have to give...

We’re going to need more revenue... Surely it will require some sort of middle class taxes as well... We won’t be able to pay for the kind of government the society will want without some increase in taxes... on the middle class, maybe a value added tax...

And we’re also going to have to make decisions about health care, doc pay for health care that has no demonstrated medical benefits.

So the snarky version... which I shouldn’t even say because it will get me in trouble is death panels and sales taxes is how we do this.

Chicago Disarms Citizens Only for the Police to Put You on Hold...

Starting this week, Chicago police are changing their responses to 911 calls. They’ll no longer come right away to reports of things like criminal damage to property, vehicle thefts, garage burglaries, or other crimes in which the suspect is no longer on the scene, and the victim isn’t in immediate danger.

The move will free up the equivalent of 44 police officers a day for patrol duties.

It's a bit like the value judgement inherent in forcing trusted adults to leave children defenseless in the face of potential atrocity. Our government "says" to our schools:

'We deem this a gun free zone, and in such case that your children need protection we will not be there for them. And if the unthinkable occurs, the fault will be in the hands of gun owners across America.'
The value judgement?

Setting up the conditions in which children are murdered is worth the resultant increase in sympathy for communal action at the cost of individual liberty, or more simply, sacrificing the lives of children for increases in communal police action and decreases in individual liberty is moral.

If they can get away with it with children, why not the citizens of Chicago?

What Happens When Funemployment Shortens?

NC House approves cuts to jobless benefits to pay down debt:
The state House on Monday night tentatively approved an overhaul of the state’s unemployment system along partisan lines after voting down a series of amendments offered by Democrats.
The bill cuts the maximum benefits paid to unemployed workers by roughly one-third, from $535 a week to $350. It also would reduce the maximum weeks of benefits from 26 to a sliding scale of between 12 and 20 weeks, depending on the unemployment rate.
