A sad sad day for the First Amendment

from protein wisdom

A sad sad day for the First Amendment:
Not because of the outcome, in which a federal court ruled that the University of Cincinnati’s “free speech zone” cannot stand — that’s to be celebrated.  Rather, what’s sad is that at the University of Cincinnati, and many more universities all across the country, students wishing to exercise the very free speech rights that are at the heart of academic freedom and a culture of intellectual discovery have today to go to court to have those rights protected from the universities themselves.
And what that suggests is that the left has completely coopted the higher education system in this country and turned it into a toxic stew of ideological leftism and the attendant fascism that necessarily goes along with it — working to turn academic freedom into a freedom from competing ideas and into a carefully policed echo chamber for progressive anti-foundationalism, collectivism, and groupthink.
Forward!
